At Odaje, we have a mission:
CREATING RESPONSIBLE FASHION THAT HAS A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE PLANET AND ITS PEOPLE.
MANIFESTO
Drawing inspiration from nature’s power and colour.
Finding new paths.
Charting the course of a future we shape, step by step.
And together, shaping the fashion of tomorrow.
Changing the world starts with a step.
Have a walk with us.
From selecting materials to recycling our shoes, every stage of our product’s life cycle is considered from start to finish to minimise its carbon impact. By incorporating innovative materials and processes into our distinctive designs, we are redefining industry standards through closed-loop production. Together, hand in hand with our suppliers, workshops and partners, we create styles that embody committed, responsible and sustainable fashion.
B CORP
Already a purpose-driven company, Odaje achieved B Corp certification in 2024 with a score of 87.4. That is above the sector average, which currently stands at 81. This rigorous certification recognises our daily commitment and our ability to shape the fashion of tomorrow by placing corporate social responsibility at the heart of our development.
WE MAKE CIRCULARITY A REALITY
As pioneers of a comprehensive circular business model in the footwear market, we put recycling at the heart of our design and production process through our MADE FROM YOUR SHOES programme. We collect end-of-life shoes in our shops to make the soles of tomorrow’s styles.
Working with Fairly Made, an independent organisation that helps us measure the real impact of our products, we continually seek more innovative ways to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible.
"Today, an Odaje women’s trainer emits an average of 18.6 kg of CO2, compared with 45.3 kg for a standard trainer — 59% less"
Above all, B Corp certification is a milestone that recognises the work and commitment of all our teams over the past 12 years to creating responsible fashion.
OUR MATERIALS
We take particular care in choosing our materials, the largest source of carbon impact in shoe production. Today, our selection of raw materials follows three fundamental principles:
GUARANTEE QUALITY
COMBINE RESPONSIBILITY AND DURABILITY
LIMIT TRANSPORT
A responsible choice
Every pair begins with a rigorous approach to sourcing responsible, durable and innovative raw materials.
Vegan suedes, recycled mesh and LWG-certified leather: we favour materials that are kinder to the planet without compromising on their ability to stand the test of time. From laces to soles, linings to heel pieces, every component of our designs is selected according to criteria for durability and environmental responsibility.
Thoughtful sourcing
To limit transport, we source materials as close as possible to our production workshops. For several years, we have worked with Portuguese, Italian and Spanish suppliers renowned for the quality of their leather, sourcing it close to where our smart shoes are made.
100%
of the leather used in our smart shoes comes from tanneries in Italy, Portugal and Spain, close to our factories.
74%
of our trainer styles are made in Portugal, predominantly using raw materials from the same country.
26%
of our trainer collection is made in China using raw materials from the region.
ODAJE IS MORE THAN A BRAND,
IT’S A MOVEMENT TOWARDS MORE RESPONSIBLE FASHION
CRAFTSMANSHIP
All our smart shoes are made in Europe, in different countries chosen to suit the characteristics of each style and local expertise.
In Portugal, a country renowned for its shoemaking expertise, we work with two workshops in the Porto region. We entrust them with making and assembling our sandals, ankle boots, Derby shoes and loafers, ensuring precise finishes and meticulous craftsmanship: essential qualities in a durable smart shoe.
For our espadrilles, we chose a specialist factory in Spain where the rope soles are sewn by hand for authentic craftsmanship.
Our flat and heeled sandals are made in a family-run workshop near Florence. This region of Italy is renowned for its centuries-old expertise in traditional shoemaking, particularly summer footwear.
We also work with a partner factory in Porto that recycles the worn-out shoes collected in our shops to create the (re)colte sole. The vast majority of our trainers made in Portugal are then produced with this innovative sole, in the same factory. Recycling and production take place at the same site, in a closed loop.

Choosing Asia
Today, 26% of our trainers are made in China. This choice comes down to expertise. Asia pioneered running shoe designs, particularly EVA soles, made from an ultra-lightweight, flexible polymer that Europe has yet to master. China also gives us access to more specialised responsible materials than those currently available in Europe: vegan ultrasuede, recycled mesh and recycled rubber. Transport is exclusively by ship and train. To meet our exacting standards, we have therefore entrusted the production of some of our styles to specialist workshops in Asia. This enables us to combine technology, quality, durability and environmental responsibility through our raw materials and partner factories with the technical expertise these products require.
