MEN’S ANKLE BOOTS

When temperatures drop, men’s ankle boots become the style and comfort essential of the male wardrobe. In leather or suede, our men’s boots and ankle boots protect the foot and ankle while keeping a real sense of style. All are crafted in our Portuguese workshop, from leathers and suedes sourced in Portugal, Italy and Turkey.

Between rain and slippery cobblestones, choosing your shoes can quickly become an ordeal. We have designed a collection of men’s ankle boots and boots made to go with every use, from the office to the weekend: all that’s left is to find the pair that suits you.

Our men’s leather ankle boots: a wardrobe must-have

Our men’s leather ankle boots come in five materials, each with its own character:

  • Grained pull-up leather: an oily leather that develops a patina, with nuances deepening at the creases as you wear them. This is the material of the Hugo and Eugène styles.
  • Box leather: a smooth, dense leather that keeps its shape, for a structured silhouette. The Liam comes in black.
  • Grained leather: a pronounced grain that stands up well to everyday scuffs, on the Mopa.
  • Suede: soft and gentle to the touch, it gives a more relaxed look to the Mazio and Nevo.
  • Oiled suede: a nourished suede that gains in robustness, on the Iriel and Navel.

Our men’s suede ankle boots and our men’s nubuck-style ankle boots are worn just as well in town as on weekends. As for manufacturing, the leathers of the Hugo, Eugène and Liam are LWG (Leather Working Group) certified, a label that oversees the environmental impact of tanneries, and all our men’s leather ankle boots are lined with leather, a lining that limits perspiration.

In terms of colors, the Liam in black leather, a dress ankle boot, pairs with a suit as well as with raw denim. Brown and cognac, available on most styles, bring a warmer touch, while the taupe of the Mazio, the amber of the Nevo and the khaki of the Navel step away from classic shades. To complete your wardrobe, also discover our men’s derbies and loafers.

Our men’s boots, from the most understated to the boldest

The most understated are the Liam, in black box leather on a 4 cm rubber sole, to wear with a suit or wool trousers, and the Eugène in brown or cognac grained pull-up. The latter is Blake-stitched, a cobbler’s technique that makes the sole more flexible and the line sleeker.

More casual, the Hugo styles pair pull-up leather or suede with a crepe-effect rubber sole: men’s leather boots that go from jeans to chinos. The Mazio and Nevo, in brown, taupe or amber suede, take over in the mid-season with a more urban style.

For a bolder style, the Iriel and Navel in oiled suede and the Mopa in grained leather go for sturdier lines. The Feno, a lace-up ankle boot with adjustable fit, comes in brown leather or in water-repellent leather for wet days.

Boots and ankle boots refer to the same shoe, one that stops at the ankle, whereas a tall boot rises up the calf. Among boots, Chelsea boots are recognizable by their elastic side panels, and lace-up ankle boots by their adjustable lacing, as on the Feno. If you are looking for men’s leather tall boots, our boots are the closest alternative: same leather, same workshop, a shaft that stops at the ankle.

Which men’s ankle boots should you choose?

To find the men’s ankle boot suited to your daily life, start from how you’ll use them and your style:

  • For every day: a versatile pair in suede or pull-up, such as the Hugo or the Mazio, that takes you from the office to the weekend.
  • For wet days: the Feno in water-repellent leather, a rubber sole with better grip on wet cobblestones and, for all the other pairs, a waterproofing treatment applied before the season.
  • For a dressy occasion: black box leather and a slim line, like the Liam.
  • For walking long distances: a flexible construction such as the Blake stitching of the Eugène, which follows the movement of the foot.
  • For following trends: a trendy men’s ankle boot is all about color, from the khaki of the Navel to the taupe of the Mazio.

Men’s winter ankle boots are not reserved for the coldest weather. For warm men’s ankle boots, go for a thick leather and a leather lining, with wool socks; in the mid-season, a suede pair is enough.

How to wear men’s ankle boots

For dressy outfits, people often think of Chelsea boots: at Odaje, it’s the Liam in black box leather that plays this role, with a suit or town trousers. The hem of the trousers should fall onto the shaft without bunching up.

With jeans, lace-up men’s ankle boots work with raw or black denim. For a polished look, let the hem of your jeans fall naturally over the shoe; for a more relaxed style, roll it up slightly above the ankle boot.

Chinos are another easy pairing: with men’s brown or cognac leather boots, they give a casual chic touch. For the top, go for layering: T-shirt, overshirt, jacket, bomber or biker jacket, then a coat when temperatures drop, for outfits as comfortable as they are put-together.

How to care for your men’s ankle boots

Well maintained, your men’s ankle boots will stay with you for many seasons:

  • Brush: after each wear, to remove dust and dirt.
  • Nourish: a balm or polish matched to the color keeps the leather supple and supports the patina of the pull-up.
  • Waterproof: before the wet season, then let them air dry, away from a radiator that dries out the leather.

Suede and nubuck, more sensitive to moisture, require separate care: a dedicated eraser for small marks, a suitable brush, then a waterproofing spray. Discover all our leather care products to look after your boots and men’s ankle boots.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between boots and men’s ankle boots?

None: boots is simply the English term for an ankle boot, a shoe that stops at the ankle. A tall boot, on the other hand, rises up the calf.

What is the fit of our men’s ankle boots at Odaje?

The ankle boot should hold the foot without squeezing: take your usual size and check our size guide if in doubt. You have free returns within 15 days to try your pair risk-free.

Does pull-up leather develop a patina over time?

Yes, it is one of its main qualities: the nuances deepen at the creases and the pair takes on its character. Regular care supports this patina while keeping the leather supple.

Can you wear men’s ankle boots in the rain?

Yes, as long as you waterproof them before the season and let them air dry, never on a radiator. For the wettest days, the Feno comes in water-repellent leather.

From which season can you wear men’s ankle boots?

From the first chill of September until spring. A suede pair like the Mazio or the Nevo suits the mid-season well, while pull-up and box leathers take over in the heart of winter.
